I have decided to start boarding horses. We have the space, we have the hay and I have the desire, for me what's better than looking out at a field of equine and making a little money to boot. It is my way of feeling like a contributing member of the family again, it is easy to lose yourself in becoming a full time parent - no great career in my opinion - but I started to lose part of the confidence that comes with being a member of the conventional work force. Who knows where this new endeavor will take us!
On another note - Christmas is coming! 38 More sleeps!

The Cost of Farming
Our Barley crop was a complete flop - which has me in a bad mood. Thought I would share the depressing figures.
Seed - $0.00
Custom Spraying - $218.21 (Paid for Chris' Dad's spraying in lieu of the seed)
Custom Combining & Trucking $617.37
8 tonnes of barley crop @ $105/tonne $845.25
$835.58

Gross Profit $9.67
Joys of Farming - PRICELESS
I edited for language.

And What a Lovely Summer it has Been.
For the first time in years, we have had a summer...... there have been few complaints of the heat for the fear of the ghost of cool summers past coming back to haunt us, but it has been hot - hot and sticky and wonderful. Being as this is my first year attempting a vegetable garden, the weather couldn't have been more accommodating, the soil has been warm and moist and the sun has nourished my plants to their full potential. The freezer has a selection of veg that will be well received in the winter months and only the corn, tomatoes and squash are left to grow, even the last couple of mornings have that hint of fall in their presence, and I don't mind at all.
The combine arrived this morning, after a short lived attempt at working the field the rain got the better of them and work has come to a screeching halt. Such is farming.

How Lucky Am I.
It is a glorious day. The breeze is incredibly fresh and what a wonderful day to be in the garden picking this evenings dinner, and what a feeling it is to be able to do so.
So as I was plucking green beans from the plants of my very first vegetable garden, I couldn't help but think to myself "how lucky am I", I was obviously asking myself in a rhetorical sense as the answer is obvious.
Tonight it is rainbow blend carrots, green beans and local (mother-in-law's) potatoes.

The Treehouse
Every little kid dreams about a tree house at some point in their life. There is something magical about being above the ground in a space all your own and imagination takes over.
When Chris and I discussed a tree house, the height limit was an immediate issue, I mean she is 2! We compromised at a fair 5 + ft ish ....... with stairs......... and a railing, I mean when the time comes that she wants to run away from home, she will have fine accommodations.
So now I will keep me eyes open for "clubhouse" stuff!
Hanna is one lucky girl to have a Daddy like Chris!
